When You Should Be Buying An RV Extended Warranty, And Where To Find One

An RV extended warranty is designed to give you peace of mind against huge repair bills, and is designed to make the job of finding a repairer and getting the repair carried out that much easier. As with extended warranties on so many other vehicles and indeed other items, the RV extended warranties are not without their share of controversy. It is important to carry out some basic research before you commit to parting with any money. If you are buying a new vehicle, you may well find that the dealer will offer you an extended warranty at the time, telling you that it is a special offer and that it will avoid any complications at the time the individual manufacturer's warranty runs out.

It is important to realize that the dealer will get a commission if he can sell you this deal. This doesn't necessarily mean that the deal is bad, or that you should not take it. It just means that the dealer is in no position to give you any unbiased advice. It is also absolutely vital to bear in mind that the coverage you will be getting if you do take on the dealer's policy will not be a direct extension of the coverage you enjoyed under the terms of the manufacturer's warranty. There will invariably be what are called exclusions, parts which are considered to deteriorate through wear and tear.

Annoyingly, these parts will still be excluded from the warranty even if it can be conclusively proven that the damage on this occasion is very much not down to standard wear and tear. Although there will be no policy available which will give you the same cover as you had from the manufacturer, it is still important to compare any of the policies on offer in case one is more comprehensive than the others. One of the big disadvantages of not being covered by the original policy is that you have to do a lot of reading and a lot of comparison in order to avoid making expensive mistakes.

Buying extended warranties can be a bit of a crap shoot. Although it goes without saying that you should carry out as much research as possible, and get all of your facts right before you make a choice, there are still many cases where you will find consumer input on forums with completely opposite points of view. The one type of insurer you need to be vary wary of is the one which hides behind confusing small print in its unwillingness to pay out.

As well as carrying out a thorough search of Internet forums, it is worth asking for opinion in the outside world. Mechanics are especially and surprisingly knowledgeable when it comes to insurance, and often their experience can help you make the right choice. They can also advise you on the records you will have to keep to be able to prove to the insurer that you have complied with the rules laid down for maintenance of the vehicle. Even something as simple as an oil change not documented can lead to an insurer refusing to pay out, so make sure you retain the paperwork. Being able to prove your case is vitally important with an RV extended warranty.
